FESTIVAL SEASON ISN’T OVER YET IN NEW ORLEANS

Just because Jazz Fest wrapped up doesn’t mean festival season is slowing down in South Louisiana. Honestly, for many locals, this is when some of the best events start rolling in.

Between Bayou Boogaloo, Greek Fest, seafood festivals, and all the neighborhood events happening throughout the region, there’s still plenty of music, food, and community ahead as we move into summer.

One of the things I love most about living in Metro New Orleans and surrounding parishes is how every weekend can feel completely different depending on where you go. One weekend might mean live music floating along Bayou St. John, while the next could be spent enjoying Greek food, dancing, and local traditions with friends and family.

WHAT MAKES BAYOU BOOGALOO SO DIFFERENT FROM OTHER FESTIVALS?

Bayou Boogaloo has become a Mid-City favorite over the years. The mix of live music, local art, food vendors, and people floating in Bayou St. John creates an atmosphere that’s hard to explain unless you’ve experienced it yourself.

And yes… one of the most entertaining parts is watching people show up with every imaginable floating device. From giant flamingos and inflatable couches to kayaks, paddleboards, and homemade float setups, the bayou turns into its own floating festival.

Of course, locals also love joking that floating in the bayou means sharing the water with the occasional alligator sighting, too. Around South Louisiana, that’s just part of the conversation. 🐊

It’s one of those festivals that perfectly captures the personality of New Orleans: laid-back, creative, slightly chaotic, and centered on community.

WHY HAS GREEK FEST BECOME SUCH A NEW ORLEANS TRADITION?

Greek Fest has been a New Orleans tradition for decades and has grown tremendously. What started as a much smaller gathering with just a few tents and local church support has evolved into one of the area’s most anticipated cultural festivals.

Today, thousands of people attend each year for the incredible food, live music, dancing, desserts, and warm hospitality that the Greek community is known for.

And honestly, even if you go for the culture, most people leave talking about the food. Between the gyros, baklava, and other homemade specialties, it’s nearly impossible not to overeat a little.

The festival has become another reminder of how deeply rooted culture and community are in New Orleans.
